湯瑪斯（大衛 鮑伊 David Bowie 飾）和其他人看起來并沒有什么不一樣，但其實，他是來自另一個文明高度發達的星球的人類。湯瑪斯原本在他的星球里有著自己的家庭、親戚和朋友們，一次他發現了地球這顆充滿水的星球，出于對水的迷戀，他離開了自己那個缺水的星球，來到了地球。在這里，湯瑪斯利用他所掌握的先進技術創辦了公司，很快就成了百萬富翁。在地球上呆的時間長了，湯瑪斯開始想念自己原來的星球、原來的家，但地球對他的誘惑實在太大了，湯瑪斯最終將如何選擇？
