昭和三十三年初春，花街的女子即將迎來他們的最后時刻。是年4月，《賣春防止法》將正式實行，往日喧囂的花街終將退出歷史舞臺。公子（芹明香 飾）嫁給深愛自己的小職員，但是他們的夫妻生活并不幸福，工資開始懷念花街快樂日子；直子（丘奈保美 飾）聽說曾有個叫繁子（中島葵 飾）的女孩在新年創(chuàng)下接客26年的紀錄，她決心向此紀錄發(fā)起沖擊；志麻子（宮下順子 飾）深愛賭徒男友志波（蟹江敬三 飾），為此她奉上自己辛苦賺來的錢，甚至在大腿內(nèi)測紋上花紙牌的圖案，但她的愛情卻遭到背叛。花街消失的前夜，歌照唱，舞照跳，所有的悲歡離合都淹沒在黑暗之中……本片根據(jù)清水一行原作《赤線物語》改編。

　　As bacteriologist Lena (38) drives past a burning car, she hears a scream of a dying woman. Lena does not tell her boyfriend how much the incident distresses her, just as she does not talk about the stillbirth she recently had. Instead, she throws herself into her work, intrudes into the life of the deceased, begins an affair with the widower and gradually takes on the role of mother to their son. Her persistent insomnia causes her to lose control between dreams and reality. Finally she accepts the help of a whisperer and then finds her own way to cope with her loss
