 故事發生在美國西部大開發時期，燕西（理查德·迪克斯 Richard Dix 飾）帶著妻子莎布拉（艾琳·鄧恩 Irene Dunne 飾）千里昭昭來到了廣袤而又荒蕪的俄克納馬拉，心里懷揣著遠大的理想，希望能夠在這里做出一番建樹。俄克納馬拉的生活環境十分艱苦和險峻，然而，夫妻兩人同心協力，慢慢改善和建立著他們的家園。在日子漸漸穩定的過程中，在當地生活的牧場主們感到他們的利益受到了侵犯，他們常常會找燕西的麻煩，卻又被燕西用智慧巧妙的化解。燕西十分同情在當地生活的印第安土著，與此同時，嫉惡如仇的燕西亦對壓迫和剝削原住民的資本家們充滿了仇恨，隨著時間的推移，雙方的矛盾漸漸尖銳起來。

Ay?e, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. 　　However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. 　　Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble.
